“Into this world, this demented inn
in which there is absolutely no room for him ... Christ comes uninvited. But because he cannot be at home in it, because he is out of place in it, and yet he must be in it, His place is with the others for whom there is no room.”—Thomas Merton
Conversation
I had no idea Merton was so apparently confused about Christ; He is *not* out of place in this world, he lived as a man among men; he is the Creator of our world, of us; his place is within us ALL; his spirit– the Spirit of Truth– lives in the heart of each of us.

I appreciate this memorial about my father by @ggrenwald above any I have read today--for his comprehensive review of his bio & history, for his attention to themes generally overlooked about his post-Vietnam life, but particularly for deep appreciation of his human qualities.🙏
