Wow, so it turns out that this is super easy to verify. So I took 20 minutes and looked at the delegates for the 1860 Republican convention from Kentucky (where my family is from) and cross-referenced them with the 1860 slave schedules for KY: at least four delegates owned slaves twitter.com/KevinMKruse/st…

So that’s *ten* Republicans who were slaveowners in 1860 — and likely more from other border states. No, this doesn’t change the fact that Democrats were overwhelmingly the party of slavery in 1860. But it does show D’Souza’s claim of *zero* GOP slaveowners in 1860 is nonsense.
