Yeah, NCR headline yesterday was clickbait. Orbis needs to take a page out of playbook to sell some more books🤙.
The thing is, historical scholarship isn't really able to provide any further clarity on this point. The evidence available, all well known since the 70s, simply isn't definitive in the way the Pope seems to demand.
