On 3/16/2016 Franziska Jagerstatter died at the age of 100. She supported her husband Franz’s refusal to serve in Hitler’s army, becoming the only Austrian Catholic executed as a conscientious objector. Honoring his conscience, she said, “We helped one another go forth in faith.”

“I have lost a good husband and exemplary father..However, the loving God ordained things otherwise ...I already look forward to our reunion in heaven where no war can longer separate us.” After his beatification: “It was a long Good Friday. But I feel I am closer to Easter now.”
