John the Baptist: The role of the messenger is not to proclaim himself; he is not his own message. His mission is to proclaim Another. When the church preaches itself rather than Christ it falls into what Pope Francis calls “spiritual narcissism.”

Powerful. This is where our militant brothers and sisters are going wrong. They become pharisees, so cognizant or rules that they forget the purpose of them. The Church is a vehicle not a destination.
