Today the Episcopal Church commemorates the martyrdom of Jonathan Daniels, an Episcopal seminarian, who went to Selma in 1965 to support the freedom struggle. On Aug 20 he was killed by a shotgun-wielding county deputy after pushing aside 17-yr-old , saving her life.
