We have that, right? Polygamy is illegal and single people pay more in taxes. Redistribution requires changing a distribution from the status quo baseline.

Come on, we are much more tolerant of being single, promiscuity & marriage cheating than were our ancestors. We support monogamy less than did they.

I'm not sure what this tells us. Serial monogamy is monogamy and multiple faithful partnerships over time is often a sign optimizing search and the development of a more demanding ideal of monagamous partnership.

Higher standards for matching, especially among women, seems at least as likely an issue of men struggling to partner. And that can come from a deepening of monogamy norms.

I think the theory is serial rather than strict monogamy, easy divorce, and economic freedom for women means almost 0 women have to settle for very low quality men. So more men now are “incel”. The change is a net good for society, but bad for these men.
