Last 24 hours shows Trump’s 2020 path to victory: -Dem candidate releases video that explains her background, values, vision and policies-it never mentions Trump; -Trump responds with childish insult; -Media only covers insult. All process, all on Trump’s terms. No Dem message.

We shouldn’t care how our primary process affects different candidates or “ideologies” (an absurd exercise at this point in time anyway). We should care whether it allows the greatest number of people to participate and brings new people into the party.

Very smart New Year’s resolution from . “The demand for content means a lot of shallow, quick takes on optics and electability...ignore it” I’d add Trump’s insults and antics to that list, too.

Voters have a right to hear about a candidate’s substantive ideas unencumbered by Trump’s nonsense. Especially on their announcement day. Especially when she didn’t even mention his name in her video.

We complain we don’t know what Democrats stand for, but when someone tries to articulate it, the media lets Trump smother it with name calling.

Obama warned in 2010 that Citizens United would lead to "foreign entities" influencing our elections. Justice Alito rebuked Obama publicly. rated Obama's statement "mostly false." And now??? My latest column for :

Beware: Russian operatives will try to divide Democrats again in the 2020 primary, making activists unwitting accomplices. 2020 resolution: think before you like or share. It might be foreign propaganda, not “news”.

We're also "ill-equipped" to assess the safety of the food we eat and the safety of the bridges we drive on, yet we've largely solved those problems. No excuse not to better safeguard our selves and our democratic way of life.

The mission of the Democratic party is to elect Democrats. Democratic party infrastructure & organization exist to help campaigns win elections. Debate about data strategy should begin and end with one question: what helps candidates win? When we forget that, we defeat ourselves.

It’s likely investigations will unearth Russian agents infiltrating our politics in unexpected places and across the spectrum. Don’t forget in 2015 Jill Stein attended a dinner in Moscow with Putin and Flynn honoring Russian state media outlet, RT.

Tactics are only as effective as the candidates themselves are engaging - and they only work if they seem authentic to the person. Live-streams don’t win elections in and of themselves.

Otaiba's emails were hacked, almost certainly by a rival state, and have been leaking for over a year now. It's not an easy issue, but for the most part the press hasn't even tried to grapple with how it incentivizes theft by state actors and others by publishing this stuff.

You don't have to be sympathetic to any of the players in the NYT Kushner story to be troubled with its reliance on hacked emails, which I don't think the NYT even really deals with honestly in this attribution graf.

An important lesson from Trump-Russia revelations: we knew a lot of this more than two years ago, but chose not to believe it. Will we do it again next time? My thoughts in tomorrow’s Washington Post.
