Noble Savage, anyone? The Natives were a complex group of tribes with their own political goals, some of which conflicted. Seeing all Natives as these happy primitives is akin to seeing Africans as a people too dumb to fight or be angry, as many colonisers once did. (2/3)
It's important to note that the Natives weren't just tribes huddled around a campfire, and, if anything, that view is racist, too. It's a weird notion that puts the Natives not as distinct cultures, but whooping fools content with their simple life. There's a name for this. (1/3)
