My op ed on the state of transmission policy. We've got a lot of unfinished business! (scroll down a bit in the Cipher newsletter). Thanks !

It's starting! Utility-independent transmission partnerships. Prediction: joint ventures, joint ownership, and joint transcos will join forces to build infrastructure, serve specific utility load, and upsize to serve wider market demand.

Wrong take though solar should be huge. Electricity is more like a basketball team with role players than a track meet with a winner.

I think it's pretty clear by now that solar photovoltaics will be the dominant energy technology of the 21st century. A bit like oil in the 20th and coal in the 19th century, it will not only be the largest energy source but shape energy systems and economies.

Great time talking western markets at CEWI’s Western Power Players! Team SPP Markets + beat team CAISO EDAM in the biathlon! Interpret that how you want. I’m just glad we are all moving and shooting at the same target of regional integration.

Every power sector resource cost estimate in an IRP could be risk-adjusted to account for probability and magnitude of cost overruns
Quote Tweet
This is an amazing table of the cost overruns of mega projects Nuclear storage has a mean cost overrun of 238%, while with nuclear power its 120% Solar power has a mean cost overrun of 1% enr.com/articles/55774

Random electric industry history: 20 yrs ago Ethan Brown, now CEO of Beyond Meat, developed a proposal for for Multi-State Entities to guide RTOs on transmission and power markets. That is the origin of today’s Regional State Committees.

Take note! You don't have to be one of the great systems thinkers like to see how the grid is the critical next step for the country's decarbonization. He explains it quite simply here.

We need to "build more high-voltage transmission lines that can carry electricity long distances, and use those transmission lines to better connect regions and communities to one another." Check out the latest GatesNotes from @Breakthrough founder: gatesnotes.com/Energy/Transmi

Awesome work, ! And then there was my project there, determining consumer preferences for energy efficiency in refrigerators. There was no relationship in the data whatsoever. Total flop. But even more sad for me at the time was learning was probably the truth!

Is there a mute button for American politics in 2023? There'll be brinksmanship on debt, the Republicans are going to impeach Biden, there'll be endless Hunter Biden investigations, and everything from schools to stoves will be subject to culture wars. asking for the world.

After massive loss of fossil power in multiple weather incidents and multiple regions, why not require gas generation to have dual fuel or firm gas supply in order to qualify as a capacity resource? Reliability is the campaign theme of the gas generation sector after all.

How would improve ⚽️? Examples: - Make goals bigger - 2-pts for goals outside penalty area - 35yd shootout instead of PKs - Kick-in option on throw-in - Hockey “penalty box”for player punishment - Offside only applies last 35-yds - Handball simply any ball contact with hand/arm

Power outages are resulting from downed local distribution lines, tracking closely with areas with high wind gusts as the storm moves through. This is the most common cause of outages. No evidence of generation supply shortages that I’ve seen. Anyone seeing it differently?
