When politicians promise action so far in the future, don't trust them. I can remember all the grandstanding speeches politicians made in the 1990s about addressing the causes of climate change and creating a sustainable economy.
If Modi can deliver on this promise to "abolish all single-use plastics in India by 2022", it will be a huge step forwards. Can remember a 1950’s UK newspaper front page picture showing a spoon heaped with sugar superimposed over the Queen Mary Liner & saying the equivalent cheap nuclear fuel would power the ship across the Atlantic many times & in the future domestic electricity could be free!

We flew to the state of Sikkim in 2004 and plastic bags were banned even back then. Even the bags our clothes were packed in our backpacks were confiscated!

It’s already started. Shops no longer allowed to give

Single use plastic bags in supermarkets were banned by law in Tasmania in 2013 and most other Australian states have already or are soon to follow. It's not hard.
