Young people of twitter: What words/phrases have you used in the last few months that older people wouldn't understand? Older people of twitter: What words/phrases have you heard young people use recently that you didn't understand? Thanks 😃👍🏼 #EngLang

I'd been wondering about the origins of this and had been meaning to look it up! This makes things much clearer.

tragically I think I count as “older” for the purposes of this - and the word I haven’t understood is stan.

‘Peak’ came up with my first years this week. Apparently it means sad/bad eg “sorry mate, that’s well peak...”

Are you in the UK? I’m in the US and “peak” is quite popular but isn’t really used in a way that’s much different from its original meaning - like it’s the pinnacle of a thing or sometimes the most pure example/stereotype. ie: “That temper tantrum was PEAK Jennifer.”

My English Lang class were suggesting the following: York: ‘spangled’ for ‘drunk’ aged 18 Though, frankly, the magic of the English language is any word can stand for drunk, except perhaps ‘sober’.
