THREAD 1)Because of the changes in BBC News announced today, my job as Editor of Live Political Programmes has closed. I’m hugely proud of the teams and the programmes they delivered. Programmes, not just news, really matter.
2) I devised #politicslive in 2018. I’m proud of the show’s depth, accessibility and commitment to diversity of opinion. It has put on over 30% in viewing figures compared with the also excellent Daily Politics which it replaced and was doing so pre-Covid general ratings bounce.
3) I'm going to miss the Andrew Marr Show. I loved being its Editor & then Executive Editor. The show remains the No.1 programme on Sunday morning and this was topped off with the RTS won in February for Andrew’s landmark interview with the Chinese Ambassador about the Uighurs.
4) Had the pleasure of working on a range of shows including Newscast, Westminster Hour, Andrew Neil Show, This Week & Newswatch. Perhaps most satisfying were the Andrew Neil Interviews delivered by journalists on the programme team who really know how to construct interviews.
5) I've worked with talents like @AndrewMarr9 @Jo_Coburn @afneil @BBCcarolynquinn @adamfleming @bbclaurak @SamiraAhmedUK & a wonderful team of programme makers . We’ve introduced many new faces, particularly on Politics Live. Thanks to everyone who’s watched . . .
6) Today's news is personally sad: I love the BBC and have defended it passionately, but I’m now looking forward to what comes next, inside the BBC or outside in the wider world. Very much open to new ideas! Feel free to get in touch. . .
