It is pretty simple. Companies like @SonyPictures are motivated to increase profits for shareholders, not to entertain audiences.

It's a lot more complex than that. Swathes of ppl aren't buying tickets at all so they're losing profit on many fronts.

Totally agree. Good article. TV is far more interesting now - there's nothing like Twin Peaks: The Return or Better Call Saul at the cinema.
