@RobAger One thing that has always bothered me with Kubrick and The Shining, is, which version would Kubrick have preferred? It also seems strange to me that such a dedicated film maker would suddenly cut so much from a release, especially when he has spent years working on it.

I like the longer version because kubrick puts hidden stuff into virtually every scene. The psychiatrist scene is essential. i think he just trimmed down to please lower attention span audiences, plus the later release of the full length in Europe sparked a re-examination.

I've bought your files on The Shining from your site. Very interested in the paintings Kubrick used. I see you found info on a few. There's others I'd like to research, but not sure how to begin? Would it be possible that Stanley compiled a list of the art? Maybe in the archives?

I've not managed to find any such lists. The art in The Shining - an art enthusiast recognized a handful of pics by specific artists and emailed me his findings. I was able to follow up on those same artists and identify some extra ones.

Thanks Rob. Well done on the ones you found! Its a huge challenge, maybe near impossible to find out many of them. I shall try somehow if I can.

The ones I'm most interested in are in the ending of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Searched high and low but not been able to identify them.

Such a huge frustration. You'd think with how meticulous Kubrick was he'd have a list of the art he wanted in each film that he may have kept. But on the other hand, its part of his and his movies' mystique I guess. Someone must have helped him track down the art you'd think.

It's surprising how much production material is not listed in the archives. Either the archivists haven't done a great job in cataloging things or Kubrick had intentionally discarded certain things so as not to provide easy answers.

Can you see all pages of the famous Overlook Scrapbook at the Archives Rob? Am planning a trip down there next month.

You could when I was there. They wheeled it out to me and I could have spent a couple of days just with that one item. Every page is full of historical articles.
