This is not a technical issue. Austerity politics in Congress led to a slower recovery which paved the way for Donald Trump. And in Europe austerity politics paved the way for the rise of right wing nationalism. Progressives must unequivocally reject it!

Here’s the money passage, and exactly WHY the Pete Peterson types want Democrats to try to “pay for” everything.

A message anyone with a big, ambitious agenda needs to hear loud and clear going into 2020.

there's only one candidate with a big ambitious agenda it's

America is still in a recession and if you continue with Austerity measures you'll destroy the country the Conservatives have done in the UK. Brexit is a direct result of Austerity measures.

I'm not an economist and even I can see the truth in this...

If you've never seen this interview with Asher Edelmen on
@CNBC you really should. He blew the presenters minds by endorsing@SenSanders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9xSVzdUNqo …#Bernie2020 -
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this. One only has to know that wages have been flat for 25+ years to know we don't have a robust economy. And I love that he mentioned velocity of money; it's so true. The more people make, the more consumers have to spend, the better the economy
-
Exactly. He went on to say that people who make less money aren't able to save so even if you did increase the minimum wage to $15 they would still spend it because it still isn't excess money. It just means they can buy their kids a second pair of shoes, maybe go to the movies.
-
Especially here in the Bay Area, where, as Ro knows, $15/hr doesn't even cover rent on 1- bedroom housing with much left to spare. Austerity is always detrimental to working/middle classes and will lead to even deeper resentment amongst the populace...and rightfully so.
-
Austerity leads to despair and job losses. When you try getting another job, especially one lower to the position you held before and you see someone of another color or nationality has it, you're told they took you job. Wrong! The government took your job through austerity.
-
Unfortunately there are racists and xenophobes who think this way no matter the economic situation, but institutions can foment racism, xenophobia and classism to distract from this system...that's a WHOLE other topic.

Yep. Have a look at how Australia tackled, and recovered from, the Global Economic Crisis. Ken Henry, our Treasury Head at the time, on fiscal stimulus: ‘go hard, go early, go households’.

Fortunately we have a bloated military budget which can be reallocated.

PayGo is horrible policy. The only thing good would be it would make pain-free tax cuts the Repubs like to do impossible, but it would also make emergency budget actions impossible too, so yeah, bad...

Every economist worth his own salt will tell you
#AusterityDeepensAndProlongsTheHurt this is a failed tool, we are witnessing a scourge being aimed at#WeThePeople who have the audacity to want to earn a living wage, have single payer, all the good things we know we CAN have#MMTpic.twitter.com/pls3b5Moyq -
That's putting it mildly. The WORD 'Austerity' should have caused a worldwide uprising. Greece did rise up against this draconian policy, but they stood alone until it began to spread across Europe. Do people even know what the word means? The ONLY response to that word is 'NO'
