Medicare for All will also allow people more freedom to pursue other careers, or start a business without the fear of not having healthcare. And not have the fear of being financially ruined because of getting sick or injured.

I think you've hit on the biggest reason that Canadians and others don't feel 'less free' when we are required to pay for universal healthcare. Universal healthcare is liberating.

Sufferer of an expensive pre-existing condition here. Some form of universal healthcare is long overdue! I'm very interested in seeing a specific implementation of an M4A bill because, for example, your use of the word "basic" here concerns me.
-
Are the expensive drugs I require to stop my body from attacking itself (autoimmune disease) covered? It's not "basic" healthcare - these are specialty drugs - but I need them to be alive. Would coverage for these require a purchase of private insurance on top of the M4A plan?
-
People with pre-existing conditions NEED to know the answers to these types of specific questions before we can be on board. Our lives literally depend on it!
-
http://Ilsinglepayer.org A good place for information. It's called National Improved Medicare for All and everyone would be covered from birth to death and includes medical, Pharma, mental health, long term care, vision and dental. No private insurers allowed-only one single payer
-
Thank you for all the information! I will read up.

Under Medicare for All as it stands today, you will be covered. That said, I know that the chronically sick and people with disabilities often get sidelined even, and especially, in health justice conversations. Great opportunity for legislators to rebuild trust in answering

My dental plan just told me they were only paying 72 of a 2200 bill to replace a crown (something that is supposed to be covered). Essentially, they said "we can't tell from the x-rays, get a lawyer if you want." Been told this is common w 1000-3000 claims.

You could have flown to Costa Rica for a one week vacation and gone home with a new crown for less than $2200.

Actually what we need to push for is called National Improved Medicare for All (NIMA) Details here:http://ilsinglepayer.org
-
So true. M4A is one way to say universal health insurance. Medicare was designed for retirees but is a good starting point.
-
Universal healthcare is vague and overly broad, without mentioning the means to achieve universal coverage. NIMA in contrast, is universal in coverage, but specific in the way it will provide that coverage -- through the well-established and popular Medicare insurance program.

#MedicareForAll is indeed extremely popular among the population, but when it comes to the political class very few like yourself advocate for such a policy. But if the government is against the wishes of the population, what legitimizes the existence of such government? - 1 more reply

As a practitioner of mental health services I would be on board.
-
Oh? Would psychiatrists actually start taking insurance then?
-
That's the plan if we all come together and demand National Improved Medicare for All. Covers you birth to death and is comprehensive, medical, dental, vision, mental health, long term care, everything.http://Healthoverprofit.org
