The Federal Reserve’s mission statement includes promoting “the goals of maximum employment” but what does this mean when unemployment is down and wages still barely rise? Congress should make clear that one role of the central bank is making sure wages rise with productivity.pic.twitter.com/qiTWiqVyMb

While the goal may have merit, I don’t see that a central bank has the tools to achieve it.

Unfortunately, the central bank has little control over how money is allocated in the economy. That's Congress' job, and they're determined to keep money out of our hands as much as possible.

Maybe they should promote unicorns too. Seriously, there is no economics where the fed has any power to control the wage-productivity gap. You need to use a different tool for that - like tax policy that encourages wage growth, for example.

Or tax policy that encourages share ownership and/or profit sharing.

Time to raise interest rates, and drive housing into a slump to oppose bad Orange man.

Too many immigrants. American employers won't raise wages because they're anticipating getting all of these new workers.
