I should make clear that I have called for no new fossil fuel projects in California, 100% clean energy by 2035, a carbon tax, and new green deal. I just think we have to transition to investments in the above and mitigation of climate change and wanted to open the conversation.

Ro! My dude. We need a plan to wind down the fossil fuel industry and move our country and world to 100% renewable energy. No mental gymnastics required. Please read
@NaomiAKlein’s work on how geoengineering would endanger poor folks & POC around the world. -
I am the only member along with Barbara lee who has called for no new fossil fuels in California
-
I am so grateful and proud! You two are a model for all legislators. But seriously, here's a super short piece from
@NaomiAKlein on how geoengineering poses HUGE ethical problems.@KateAronoff, if you have other good links, please chime in.https://www.thenation.com/article/why-geoengineering-untested-and-untestable/ … -
Thanks for sharing this

Seriously. We need to talk infrastructure in the way of a green new deal in the next Congress, but this is...ah... not helpful.
-
I agree with a green new deal and support that and infrastructure
-
Thank you for reaching out, and would be happy to talk more.

I admire all your work. Obviously I think oil companies have done tremendous damage. It’s why I don’t take a dime from them and have called for no new fossil fuel projects. I just want to explore how we best get to the clean energy future we all want and tackle climate change

Are you kidding? These are the people who have been knowingly geoengineering the planet for decades--I wouldn't trust them with my dog, let alone all of life on Earth. They need to STOP. We need to sue them for all they're worth to fund mitigation and transition.
-
Agree. My point is they need to transition to renewables. I don’t take a dime of their money.
-
To clarify: We need lots more clean energy, some of which will be owned by corporations (though ideally a lot by communities). But why would we need/want to transition oil companies to renewables companies? We need more renewables, not to coddle the richest industry in history.
-
Agree with you on ending the subsidies. I have called for that.

#Hemp aka#Cannabis aka#Marijuana ending#Prohibition will help get r done .. Move food off the DEA schedule it does not belong there. This is Human Rights not States Rights. No grow no FREEDOM This lie has gone on #100 years in Texas .. WE are saying#EnoughIsEnough

dude, this is how the dakota pipeline happened
-
I strongly opposed the Dakota pipeline
-
Did you do it by incentivizing the oil companies to do the right thing?

Fair point

This is a VERY bad Tweet. Should be deleted & replaced w/ suggestion that: a) Is grounded in the context of the horrific crimes of the oil industry b) Winds industry down & lessens its political power (i.e., end subsidies & nationalize) c) Stays the hell away from geoengineering
-
Agree that oil companies have done tremendous damage. But we need to incentivize transition to energy efficiency and renewables
-
Absolutely agree. Shifting subsidies is great place to start; U.S. spends $20 billion of public money on fossil fuel production/year. Would be great to remove it & shift to renewables. Shifting frame from "incentivize oil companies" to "standing up to Big Oil" would help a lot.
-
Also, the original Tweet says nothing about this transition, which is probably why it's being trashed. In energy politics, geoengineering & cloud seeding are common Trojan horses thrown about by Big Oil to avoid transition. So it's not a great place to start the conversation.
