It’s wrong that we let an unelected bureaucrat decide what we can and can’t pass in the Senate. Millions are relying on us to provide a pathway to citizenship. We have to overrule the Senate parliamentarian.

Canceling debt at the margins isn’t going to move the needle in any significant way. Removing the burden of educational debt from everyone who needs it means they can then buy houses, cars, and spend money at local businesses.

55.5% of minimum wage earners are age 16 or older. You can’t live or raise a family on a minimum wage of $15,000 per year. Raise the wage.

When the Senate decides something is important enough, they make an exception to the filibuster to get it done. They’ve done it with judges and the debt ceiling. Well, voting rights are important enough. Change the filibuster, get it done.

The House acted in good faith and passed the infrastructure bill, on the promise that the Senate would do the same with Build Back Better. It’s time for the Senate to hold the vote that the President promised.

Yes in a democracy, leaders should listen to all the expert opinion, deliberate, and then ultimately make the value judgments and decisions instead of deferring to technocrats.

I was writing about something different but I asked about the Build Back Better Act delay and whether the Progressive Caucus made a mistake in decoupling the bill from the infrastructure package. Here's his answer:

Senators, here’s your reminder that taking a holiday recess before getting rid of the filibuster and passing voting rights legislation would be completely irresponsible given all the threats facing our democracy.

It isn’t right that the billionaire class gets to pay less percentage in tax than many average Americans. Even 53% of Republicans believe billionaires should pay more in taxes. We need a wealth tax.

The new defense budget is $20 billion MORE than the President requested. What’s $20 billion? It’s tuition-free community college, or eight weeks of paid parental leave instead of four. We have the money to pay for these things — it’s a matter of priorities.

$7.25 per hour over the course of the year comes out to just over $15,000, without any time off. The average 1-bedroom apartment in 2020 cost $19,452. How are you supposed to live on the minimum wage? Raise it.

This makes no sense. Instead of raising taxes on the ultra rich, we are going to make students in debt pay to raise revenue. Awful on the substance and awful politics. We need to do better to deserve victory in 2022.
