as long as the user ids and browsing data from tuber are sufficiently anonymized i see nothing wrong with this. hog up the cloud resources of the western web giants without contributing any data to them in return

Seen it all before. Either it’s illegal, in which case it’ll be gone soon, or it’s legit and it’s like a “broken” payphone in East Germany that works without coins. i.e. a trap. Just as the Stasi were listening, expect all traffic on such a browser to be heavily monitored.
