very cool of to send an independent press a condescending email about how our decision to pull a known plagiariser's book from print was a "hasty and ill-considered decision" according to a "committee of professionally published creative writers"!

  4. I partner with a couple of local orgs to teach writing classes (anywhere from 8-18yos) on zoom, and I always put they/them beside my name. And sometimes some of them see that and also quietly put they/them beside their own names during class, AND 💕 MY 💖 HEART 💗💓

  5. the amount of people in my dms in 2021 who still don’t know this 😭 I don’t care if these pubs claim it’s “operational costs”, DON’T PAY the number of people* who ignored me before, only to return crying that they’re out $3k for nothing *filipinos scammed by local vanity pubs

  6. Another thing you should not be doing is paying “agents” or “publishers” to read or have your book published because these are actually scammers. I don’t care which country they’re based at, scammers are the same the world over. PUBLISHERS PAY YOU, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND 😭

  9. If there was a children's book about a family of literal crackers will white people still commit to anti-cancellation or will they get it "More grits for me!" says sister-wife. "More grits for me!" says brother-husband. "No!" says father-son. "Not till you pull them bootstraps!"

  11. Not from the tgftw universe... yet But something new for one book, and also something beloved, from somewhere else (I am being deliberately vague till I can finally announce things, sorry)

  13. I'm doubling down. If an agent or a publishing house attempts to ownvoice guilt you into outing yourself, feel free to cite my tweets as part of your defense, lol. I've been here long enough that I'm sure they know me, even if they followed that up with an exasperated sigh

  14. Live your life like your tweets accusing publishing houses for dropping the ball on marginalized authors become part of an internal email chain in those same major publishing houses LMAO.

  15. personally for me, because the 1000 words I write now mean more to me than the 10,000 word essays I was forced to do before 😌

  16. as an aside: the original creator of this hashtag is the sweetest person. Do NOT blow this back on them, because I WILL bully. Y’all know me.

  17. I don’t think a new hashtag will fix this. Changing publishing attitudes - and calling out the specific editors and publishers who do this next time - are the only correct fixes for this.

  18. We are fucking tired of this. I am the spiteful sort, and the only reason I am trying not to release names is because I’m not directly involved in these and it will likely harm those that are.

  19. First that agent who wants to use your identity as a “brand”, saying you won’t get book deals if you don’t come out, so just “do it on purpose”. Then publishers who rejected a FilAm author not because they didn’t like his book, but because his book is queer and he isn’t out

  20. I am no longer using for my books and I encourage others to do the same. Originally conceived to celebrate us, it’s now instead used by publishers as a cudgel to deny bipoc authors book deals, forcing them to come out to defend the truths in their books.

  21. imagine local news media in the Philippines having to follow the delivery of what few vaccines we managed to get here because the Philippine government has gaslit us for so long that they had to prove we’re actually getting vaccines. mga buwaya
