Thank you and for organizing this important effort, which we support as a signatory. It's simply good policy to make #FairFares more effective by ⬆️ eligibility to 200% of the poverty level, and providing πŸ’΅ needed for successful implementation.

Our letter to @NYCMayor: We have an obligation to provide relief for those who must commute every day and who are keeping New York City going – nearly half of whom struggle to afford the fare.

"The length of their parents commutes can be one of the biggest factors in predicting upward mobility for children. More than coming from a two parent home. More than their test scores." masterfully connects transit to equity in this great listen.

More context for riders' win in Albany: From a left perspective, the big funding deal -- major new revenue, a smaller fare hike, more frequent subway service, camera-enforced bus priority, free bus pilot -- is one of a very few bright spots in this year's budget

Socialists and progressives won a few key demands in the New York state budget battles. But overall, Gov. Kathy Hochul rammed through an awful budget that will make life much worse for the state of New York’s working class. jacobin.com/2023/05/new-yo

It's hard to overstate how big of a win this is even if there's more to be done. Despite a particularly rough budget season, riders organized and were able to win funding, not just to save transit for another year, but for *better* transit.

And if puts a busway on Fordham Road? The Free-x12 would be unstoppable.

We solidified 5 πŸ–πŸ½ free bus routes in this years budget I think the Bx 12 should be the free route. Runs across the whole borough. Hits manhattan. And of course lands at Orchard Beach πŸ– What route do you think should be free? twitter.com/CityAndStateNY…

Congratulations to partners for this important victory to secure state resources for mass transit. This is exactly the type of investment NYS should make: not only does it fill MTA deficits, it expands service!
