Gotta love how Harvard-educated Ron DeSantis goes out of his way to define elites as EXCLUDING those who control the "commanding heights" - ie. the Marxist definition of the economic elite. Elites are just anyone who DeSantis disagrees with

You gotta love how Ron DeSantis opens his book by railing against "elites" in the name of the people, before carefully noting that he doesn't mean Ivy League conservatives who vacation with billionaires, oil barons, or for that matter people of "great wealth" generally.

even more reason to challenge the tech companies’ claims that generative AI is the future, that chatbots will replace search, and that we can trust this tech. it’s always move fast and break things to have a quick boom and cash in before people realize what they’re doing.

Asked for examples of sexual harassment at law schools, ChatGPT named a GW prof accused of touching a student on a class trip to Alaska, citing a WashPost story. The prof is real. The rest was made up. We wrote about what happens when AIs lie about you: washingtonpost.com/technology/202

Excellent summary of the backlash against Feedly's shameful robo-Pinkerton promo. Would also add that the euphemistic "security" & "risk-assessment" language Feedly uses is EXACTLY how today's Pinkerton agency describes its work. pinkerton.com/protection/ons

I’m scared of AGI. It's confusing how people can be so dismissive of the risks. I’m an investor in two AGI companies and friends with dozens of researchers working at DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Brain. Almost all of them are worried. 🧵

Reeling right now from news that one of my former interns took his own life late last year. He was only 32. It's a shocking reminder we seldom understand how those around us may be suffering and struggling. His family asked for contributions to , donating today.

there are so many good reasons to want to know if there are protests in your area, and Feedly chose the absolute most vile one possible to advertise also treating protests, strikes, and riots as equivalent is so disgustingly revealing

who, exactly, was asking for AI to "track riots, strikes, and rallies that pose a risk to a company's assets"? blog.feedly.com/how-to-track-p

Remember how "corporate profits don't cause inflation?" Is it just possible that corporate profiteering causes just a teensy-weensy bit of inflation?

Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz complains about Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) “unfair” labeling of him as a billionaire: “I came from nothing … Yes, I have billions of dollars — I earned it. No one gave it to me. And I’ve shared it constantly with the people of Starbucks.”

"Why should we COPE? Why should we just plan to have disruptions and just "let" this shit happen?" And "Why should society ADAPT to machines rather than making tools that WORK for us?" - Timnit Gebru ^ This is NOT inevitable unless we let it. Are we REALLY pursuing progress?
