Most didn't vote for him. The majority voted for the other moderate choices and Chesa slipped in thanks to rank choice voting with only 68k votes in a city of 850k people.

but nobody should have had him even as 3rd choice. he won because those who voted for others as 1st & 2nd choices voted for him as 3rd. There were 4 candidates, no need to vote for >1, can vote for 2 also. Too many looked past his statements & filled in circle next to his name.

I voted for one candidate for all the spots. I think ranked choice is a scam.

But note "If I really want my first-choice candidate to win, should I rank the candidate as my 1st, 2nd, & 3rd choice, & so on? No. Your vote can count only once for your 1st choice. If you rank same candidate 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, it is same as leaving the 2nd & 3rd choices blank."

So what do you recommend if in an election no one gets 50%+ of votes cast?

I think the scam of ranked voting needs to be discarded. The system of getting the most votes works just fine.

So you are okay when there are say 4 candidates, and 1 gets the most but just 26% of the vote, he/she wins? Not even sure that was in play before ranked choice in SF.

Sure. I don't think people have to get 50% of the vote. Ranked choice is gamed and manipulated in SF where they coordinate and run down ballot people that they use to really support candidates like Chesa who can't win on their own merit. Ranked choice is how you get Chesa.

Getting 50% of the vote in SF is a moot choice nonetheless. It's a One Party city, much like the Communist Party of China, where there isn't much of a choice. Just varying degrees of leftist ideology. It's a sick system that's rotting with totalitarianism.

But your way would have still resulted in Boudin winning.

It really comes down to voters paying more attention.
