It’s a pretty horrific mentality that justifies a total erosion of individual rights and liberties by the government to enforce “order” or social mores. SG drug laws are disgraceful. The govts job isn’t to enforce morality or protect people from themselves. US > SG any day.

Except I don't think progressives subscribe to "bad people are victims of society" any more. E.g they don't think Trump voters were motivated by "economic anxiety" but by sexism and racism.
