One underlying challenge for @UN that we highlighted in January has been sorting out how the #UnitedNations funds #AfricanUnion peace operations in places like #Somalia. #COVID19 has stifled diplomacy around that, but it still needs resolving. Another long term issue @CrisisGroup would liked to have seen more action on @UN this year is addressing how the #UNSC deals with climate change-related conflicts.

But of course #COVID19 - and @antonioguterres' call for a #globalceasefire during the pandemic -- took up a lot of our time this year. We got behind the global ceasefire idea from the start... But, COVID or no COVID, the @UN has to keep an eye on a range of long-running conflicts and diplomatic games.
