While I share some of these concerns, I must admit it was too easy to predict such a tweet this time.https://twitter.com/serhiikulykov/status/1220405109059923968 …

I wish the relevant parties had thought of the negative impact *before* shipping half-baked APIs

Is this mutating the sheets array on assign? Why? Super surprising. BTW wouldn’t this require a change to
@flowtype and@typescript? -
It's freezing them because mutating has no effect (you can only trigger a change through assignment) and yes, it's *extremely* surprising. It's an API that should never have made it off a whiteboard during an initial brainstorming session

If anyone is curious, I did offer feedback on why document dot aSS is bad (leaving aside the extremely questionable/dangerous way that stylesheets are added to nodes): https://github.com/WICG/construct-stylesheets/issues/97 … Just in case you were about to tell me to get more involved instead of shitpostingpic.twitter.com/hufSV8JlXP

Sometimes I wish we'd had reactivity, data binding, or even a vdom in the browser so that we could save tons of bandwidth and CPU cycles. Then I remember how useless WCs are.
-
We actually did at one point! Remember Model-Driven Views and Object.observe? I think they were under the custom elements v0 umbrella

“bUt PeOpLe ArE uSiNg It!!!” So what? Break the web. We’ve done it before.
-
I'm very much *against* breaking the web, but I don't think this case qualifies. If you're using unstable non-cross-browser features, that ain't 'the web', and you shouldn't expect not to have the rug pulled out from under you. Trouble is Chrome presented it as a fait accompli

Hi Rich, I run standards for Chrome. If you'd like to discuss our approach, happy to set up a call.
-
Would it result in changes to how you do things, so that web developers are spared further episodes like this one?
