9/14/2001 AUMF. US wandering with a gun, crying that because it was hurt it will kill again and again. That's not a country, it's a monster.

2008 (before taking office)- Obama transfers $700 billion from taxpayers to banks. 7 million+ lose their homes. Less than 1/3 will ever become homeowners again. 2013- Obama makes permanent 82% of President Bush’s tax cuts. 2015- Half of all US income now goes to the top 10%.

I bet Senate Dems are going to focus on protecting out voting systems, ranked choice voting, paper ballots, educating their workers on the importance of cyber security and so much more since Russia tried to hack....what's that? None of that is happening? Never mind

People who read these threads will have read how I go on about societal decadence before. This is part of it. When elites in general don't care about the people it's difficult to make them loyal to only domestic elites.

I would take the "Trump's a traitor!" people more seriously if they showed any sign of trying to put systematic remedies in place, such as those that would have applied to Obama when he set a lot of this up. But no, this is supposed to hinge on Trump being the only one

You can't have your Supreme Court declare that money is speech and that Free Speech means political money can't be regulated, have money easily shipped all over the world, and then expect other governments to not buy our politics. It's cheap and we have a huge war machine to use

As any number of people have pointed out,, our system is vulnerable because our elites want it to be vulnerable so that they can easily influence it. But there is no way in our world to make a system that's vulnerable to internal but not external interference

Or maybe they could have Trump destroy NATO and start a trade war? They would literally be making things better for America if they did this. They could have Trump reveal troop movements? Well, the basic problem there is we aren't at war with Russia

Or maybe policy level: he could change policy to favor the Russians. Our policymakers are already for sale to every foreign country that cares to buy them, and if a hostile power wanted to change our policy to destroy us they could do no better than our own elites are doing

Voting machines? Manufacturers already are building in Internet connections to them. Maybe he could reveal our spies? Our spy services are some of the most inept in the world at anything but running death squads: during the Cold War we had essentially zero successes

Or maybe he could let some hackers hack the electric grid? Whatever precautions that exist on the grid have by now been circumvented by someone somewhere installing an Internet of Trash wifi connected coffee machine as happened to a chemical factory recently.

A slightly more serious thread about Trump treachery. What do people imagine that Trump could actually do if he was a literal traitor? Like if it's "reveal the nuclear codes" wouldn't it be simpler to just bribe some soldiers with some LSD?

Some people take the idea the Trump is a literal traitor very, very seriously, up to the point of actually doing anything about it or even trying to convince people who aren't donut twitter

Why does the working class have to do with a struggle between capitalists in the U.S. and capitalists in Russia? That is not our fight. Our interests are not the same as their interests - don't fall for phony nationalism, oppose war, fight for human rights for the oppressed.

"here's something about watching it unfold in real time that stuns in a way that—like catching a cheating partner after months of suspicion or seeing a loved one die after a terminal illness" Now I understand: people freaking out think of the American empire as their loved one

There's a local college radio show "Lab Talk With Laura" that today had one of the guests mention that Michael Crichton was a climate denialist, which I'd forgotten. American SF has probably been worse for actual science than if it had never existed
