If polls were kept open on that date it would jeopardize public health while also infringing our democratic right to vote. On March 24th, when @GovEvers ordered the state to shelter in place there were 506 cases & 5 deaths from the #COVID19 pandemic. (2/12)

Today there are over 1,300 cases & 16 deaths, more than double the cases and 3x the deaths.
@GovEvers, you ordered us to shelter in place bc of#COVID19 & that was the right call. However, keeping the election date of April 7th is reckless & will lead to more suffering. (3/12)Afficher cette discussion -
It goes against your own order & the CDC’s guidelines to limit social interactions for the next 6-8 weeks to flatten the curve. We saw a spike in
#COVID19 cases in both IL & FL when they chose to proceed with their elections bc some poll workers were positive w/the virus. (4/12)Afficher cette discussion -
The other issue is democracy. A large number of people will be unable to vote because of the unrealistic and untimely deadlines you are upholding.

Absentee ballots are not feasible for all voters for multiple reasons &
@CityofMadison has already said that many who request a ballot are unlikely to receive one due the massive increase in requests.#COVID19 (6/12)Afficher cette discussion -
The other issue is that absentee ballots require witnesses, which goes against the logic of your shelter in place order.

This places people who have likely been more mobile during shelter in place with those who are more isolated, likely older and probably at higher risk of complications if they were to contract the virus.

I believe this to be unacceptable risk and it appears the
@CityofMadison which filed a federal brief against your decision agrees as well. There is no legitimate reason why our election day should not be postponed.#COVID19 (9/12)Afficher cette discussion -
14 other states have postponed, including OH, NY, GA, IN, and DE. As a physician and concerned citizen, I am asking our leaders to make the right call and to

People should not have to choose between their right to vote, which is essential to our democracy and our public health which is endangered by this pandemic. Lives are at stake.

@GovEvers, the@NationalGuard should be helping with getting Americans tested and treated for#COVID19, not acting as poll workers for an election that you can easily postpone. We're up to 1,730 cases and 31 confirmed deaths from COVID19 as of yesterday. The deaths have doubled since I started this thread.
@GovEvers, please do the right thing and use your emergency powers to#PostponeWisconsin (the election)Afficher cette discussion -
Gov. Tony Evers Madison office: (608) 266-1212 Milwaukee office: (414) 227-4344 Make your voice heard and tell the Governor that Wisconsin wants to have a functioning democracy and also protect public health. I believe he will ultimately listen.
