so many conflicts between people discussing technology are essentially A: "I love X! it lets me do so much" B: "X is horrible! it handles none of the edge cases properly and has large negative externalities" and neither of them is wrong? all technology is flawed, much is useful

I agree, but I see a lot of Bs getting in fight with As without ever trying to understand their perspective infosec is full of Bs
-
A is a "dumb user" mentality (nothing pejorative about that): "I want this to work without me needing to understand". B is a "power user / hacker" mentality: "I want this to be done right for all cases". Different perspective. And I'm often an A until I take a look at the code

It's not as clear cut. For example, I know how disgusting Linux is inside, and yet I love it for how much it lets me achieve.
-
That's true of me as well, but it's clearly because I don't have the expertise to write a kernel. If I did, I'd probably turn full B on Linux.

-
I wrote a few kernels (how many depends on what you count as "kernel"). This only really made me appreciate the challenges Linux faces more. I mean, I still think it's crap, but I don't think I'd design it all that much better in similar circumstances.
