So yeah, the relatively painful process of getting stuff packaged on Linux Desktops meant we had a practically malware-free Desktop system for decades. I've been saying this for ages. DON'T make it easy to install anything that hasn't been curated by a painful packaging process that's impossible to automate.

If you insist on doing it anyway, run the non-curated stuff under *extreme* sandboxing (preferably a pure-interpreting emulator/bytecode interp).
