As a @Telstra customer I want to know what is going on here. I already pay a premium for the service. I do not want my location data being sold and used by anyone. Where do we opt out?

Do I need to find a new provider
@Telstra or are you going to address the issues here? Mobility data has enormous potential to compromise privacy and personal security. I expect mine to be kept secure, not sold off to whoever wants it.2 replies 12 retweets 17 likesShow this thread -

They're a phone company. They collect data. The issue here is what they do with it. And, yes, anonymisation is something of a magical buzzword that is invoked to make people relaxed about data being shared. I'm interested in finding out what Telstra thinks it means.

A phone company's job (and only job) is to connect calls/route packets. Collecting and monetizing data about customers is not part of their job, and should not be legal for them to do.

All phone companies collect data. If they did not they would be unable to do that core business of connecting calls and routing packets. What happens to that data is the crucial issue.
