Connecting a USB 3.0 device through a 2.0 extender (and thus disconnecting extra data lines) is a universal trick because XHCI drivers/controllers are still bad Works for: * Booting from USB 3.0 drives on older Macs * Working around HDD disconnects when using Apple USB-C adapter
I wonder if this would have fixed the 100 byte/sec xfer rates booting @alpinelinux installer on my laptop last year with a kernel too old (4.7-ish?) to support usb3 properly.
