Talked with someone from a top school “Basically these guys get into these frats, consistently get internships at VCs, then somehow always end up founding a startup with good funding. *They do not work hard.* I see them in class, I wouldn’t work with them. It’s all connections.”

Interesting how this system is locked into sexism, because the frats only accept men.

This is the kind of shit I’m trying to combat by encouraging others to mentor outside their typical networks. I believe that people are generally good, and a big source of pain is simply being too insular with our networks, not being connected enough to people who need us.

Those VCs don’t think they’re doing anything wrong. They probably opened applications, didn’t get enough people they liked, but they know their frat and know people have been good. It’s not malicious, it’s easy and safe. And yet it is harmful.

I think you're too generous with them. Anyone in or exposed to the frat system knows how it works.
