So the following happened to me and it feels seriously shady, so I'm wondering if other people had similar incidences: I tried to get money from an ATM from @laanogspar with my visa card - and the atm kept my card.

it didn't tell me why and there was no immediate way to contact the bank, they didn't answer the phone and the office was closed. I wrote them an email.

now they tell me that they can't give me back my card and the also cannot tell me why. I contacted my own bank now and hope to get advice from them what to do, but... wtf? is this normal? why would something like this happen?

It's a very antiquated form of dealing with suspected fraud. Highly insecure because they likely just took your only document containing bank's 24-hour phone number.

Here most ATMs don't even take the card inside anymore, just have a slot it sits in during the transaction. I try to avoid any that do take it. Shame the bank that did it.
