Yeah, I do @musllibc, FOSS & infosec stuff. But now is not the time for a mostly-/only-tech Twitter feed.

I don't understand the fuss over @rozzie's crypto backdoor scheme. It's an outline of a framework, not a full proposal, for an extremely difficult security problem. Basing policy on speculation that future breakthroughs will make this sufficiently secure would be very foolish.https://twitter.com/StevenLevy/status/989137418241507328 …

A legendary technologist has concocted what he says is a solution to the crypto wars regarding legal gov access to encrypted data on devices. Will this end the war or heat it more? https://www.wired.com/story/crypto-war-clear-encryption/ …

The trouble is that technologists can see the flaws, but a policy person might see reasonable compromise in an imperfect world. The parties demanding backdoors see progress and hope. The last thing I want is for those parties, the legislators, or the regulators to see any hope.

Problem is that the policy person is COMPLETELY WRONG. The idea that a crypto back door is a "reasonable compromise" is ignorant fantasy. I can forgive policy people for not understanding why, but I do NOT forgive them for ignoring experts like @mattblaze and proceeding anyway.

The trouble is that the policy guy is trapped in the middle, and the pro-backdoor side is constantly shoveling every pro article in front of policy guys. We must strive to reduce/eliminate supporting documentation and articles for pro side.

Expose the pro-backdoor guys as self-interested charlatans. No-platform them. Stop treating them like people who deserve any respect.

In my comment above, I meant "pro-backdoor" to mean the users desiring access -- law enforcement, etc. Broadly speaking, though, I've come to support exactly what you propose for the charlatans who are promoting solutions, or indeed, the possibility of a solution.
