very annoying: when Windows/AV/... decides to randomly revert a file to a prior version, resulting in my CNC mill crashing because it reverted to older (not quite reliable) settings for the stepper-motor control (and its position went off-track). grr...
This is why you don't use Windows, or if you have to you use Windows with no network or AV, for controlling dangerous or expensive equipment.

yeah. this is using a FlashCut CNC kit, which is Windows only, uses a proprietary box/interface for driving motors, runs real-time motor control stuff in a normal Windows user-process, stores its main config file in its directory in Program Files, ... yeah...

for the lathe, was going to go a bit more custom (albeit with off the shelf stepper-driver modules), and probably use a dedicated microcontroller for motor-control (with a RasPi running the CNC logic). should hopefully be a little less problematic.
