So, apparently @twitterdev have decided to kill off third-party app support as of June — apps won't be able to support push notifications or auto-refresh streams and will only the same feed as the web, with ads, no lists, and random stuff people have liked.

IMO it's the "obviously-right" wsy to access a service, puts you on equal ground. Too often API key based stuff gives app different, sometimes greater access (like unwanted access from their cloud service).
