Much more of the standard library could have been available for lower-level use. There could have been a collections and io library usable without those design decisions, etc. It was a very explicit design decision to have such lackluster low-level stdlib and ecosystem support.
Loss of view is loss of data. Consider a list of all strings length N where you're looking at the one you care about. MVC model is wrong; the view too needs a model behind it.

You're supposed to save / restore all of that, and good apps do, but some developers cut corners. WebView isn't really native content and the web isn't designed to save state so that's why web-based stuff doesn't do this as well.

Some developers *disable* configuration changes like screen rotation, keyboard opening, etc. to mask that they didn't properly implement using transactions and also saving / restoring activity state as needed.
