If they're using OAuth, nothing is shared by default. Nothing except that you use the site and when you log in. I've only implemented OAuth once so I'm not an expert. Am I wrong here?
oauth and openid are consent based to login only openid will be a better choice with not much data shared by default and the user gets a pick. Not sure what medium is asking for
My understanding is that very little is passed, since it would all need to go through the OAuth callback URL. There is no more connection than that. It's giving your FB data to Medium, but there's no mechanism to pass data back to FB unless Medium is doing something custom.

So basically the main tweet here is bs. Lots to hate on in terms of tech privacy, but OAuth is probably not one of them
OAuth is a big problem for a lot of reasons. And here the issue is that you're being asked to login/identify yourself at all in order to read.
