We have a proof of concept implementation of prompting when an app requests the clipboard for Android, but for now what we're shipping is just disabling access in the background by default and having a per-app toggle for users to enable it (apps can't request it though).
-
Google ended up implementing the same thing later on so we ended up not needing our own check for whether an app is in the background. They only forbid background clipboard access for 'instant apps' which is a really stupid thing that we don't provide.

Going to be really annoyed if we need to make changes to Chromium for this too...
-
... and it does appear like they've already screwed it up in Chromium / Firefox / Safari, etc. to varying extent. :\ They have more limitations placed on it vs. the specification (thankfully) though... but it's inconsistent and too lenient.

Not sure who thought it was a good idea to let web apps silently copy and paste. Requiring user interaction with the page to do stuff like this isn't much better. It doesn't even work properly for popup blocking, etc. Popups are common again if it slips through ad-block filters.
-
Guess it's now limited to 1 popup per click on the page but still...
