Yeah, I do @musllibc, FOSS & infosec stuff. But now is not the time for a mostly-/only-tech Twitter feed.

Facebook has been recording people’s call records on Android. Another reason I never use Android.https://twitter.com/mat_johnson/status/977317787520720896 …

I love that people defend Android because you can change permissions. Yeah and people read EULAs right? 🙄 iOS doesn’t even let developers access call history or SMS data.

A Facebook software engineer just emailed me. It's clear even Facebook employees don't understand why people are surprised the company even needs to collect call history and SMS datapic.twitter.com/sXUWvNP4eR

The worst part might be thinking the EULA analogy somehow makes it better rather than worse.

If you "consented" to something without being aware of it and without having a meaningful choice not to, you didn't consent to it.

Which means that there are FB engineers out there that don't understand informed consent, think what they are doing is good enough, or think that informed consent is unnecessary. That reaction reeks of self-righteousness.

The more I think about it, the more I think this FB employee should be outed. Force FB to take a public stance on this abhorrent view, either standing with them or firing them.

Eh. If he's a big wig, absolutely. If he's not, FB will fire, make a big show of it, and nothing will actually change, but FB will pretend otherwise.

The point is forcing FB to take a position on whether his view is acceptable. Make them claim they think it's not, then get caught acting according to the same view again next time.
