Dudes, please read this thread by a good dude.
@MalwareJake please let the woman in your story know that she's not alone, and many of us would just listen if she needs to talk. Some form of this has happened to us or someone we know. Thanks Jake for addressing your fellow men.https://twitter.com/MalwareJake/status/976848126987374593 …

caveated at the end by this, so basically still worked in a loop hole to attack people other than the women he associates directly withpic.twitter.com/xQoBth0sJT

Yeah, that part of the thread was really not cool. It seems to reflect the kind of audience/social circle he's expecting it to be received by, and maybe saying that has some short-term tactical benefit, but I still feel it's harmful and unnecessary.

As someone who's incorrectly labeled "social justice warrior", when in fact I'm actually a "social justice warlord, driving my enemies before me, hearing the lamentation of the haters", I actually don't think this last line was bad at all. There's some distracting crap out there.

Am I a bad feminist because some things make me eyeroll so hard? No. I choose when and how to engage on matters of equality & refuse to be coopted towards any cause. Where I spend my political capital & energy is my choice.

Absolutely not. That's an awesome framing of it. Framings that delegitimize or further narratives that delegitimize other people's choices about how to advocate for themselves and others aren't so cool though.

(Deleted old ver of that tweet and added "not" because grammatically my reply seemed to say the opposite of what I meant.)

I think "SJW" has taken on more of the old "feminazi" meaning though, in common vernacular. That's how I read his tweet - like hey, this isn't about an extreme position that that label has come to be associated with; this should be the mainstream position of human equality

The narrative that there is an "extreme position" is a huge problem, and playing along with it pretty much amounts to throwing other people (those perceived as "extreme" because of communication styles, appearance, race, ...) under the bus.

So you're saying that no extreme position exists? Ok. You're entitled to your opinion on that.
