Are there any articles on Cambridge Analytica that explain what the reporter thinks they actually did beyond disingenuously steal a bunch of Facebook bios and likes. I can scrape DeviantArt for kink clusters that doesn’t make me a genius.

They didn't scrape data that was publicly visible or "consensually" shared with them. They scraped full data to an additional degree of separation away via FB's awful Graph v1 API.

They also collected initial "consent" of first-degree targets by fraud, claiming it was academic study only. And they also broke a contract signed with FB based on their claim to having deleted the data and derived data.
