Huh, I was always under the impression that this had been known for years and that most CP on the blockchain was encrypted?
-
It might have been legend but I don't think anyone had credible claims of their truth. Proof would require the keys. And once the keys are out they're sufficiently tiny that stopping spread or accountability for ownership is impossible.

Wow, I've been wondering that for a while now as well. The implications of that are pretty fucked. Can I legally download the blockchain now? Regardless, should I? etc.
-
Probably not, and no. But you can buy put options.
-
The whole thing is pointless if end-users don't verify transactions themselves, regardless of this development (people forget that).

Most of the supposed advantages are BS. BTC has one pro, and it's only really even a pro in the context of the anarcho-capitalist experiment it is: it's decentralized. And it gets that pro at a steep cost in terms of cons.
-
Not to mention that actual regular everyday people don't give a shit about having a decentralized ledger. It solves a problem that people don't have. Anyways I should </rant> before I go on further
