Trolltweet: Discuss the ethics of selling 0day for 6-digit sums and donating proceeds to Amnesty, or bootstrapping a new Wikileaks. (/me ducks while things start flying).

I think
@RichFelker hit upon the problem. The potential harm of how the 0-day would be used probably outweighs the good you would probably do with even six figures of money. 2nd law of thermodynamics: entropy increases. Doing harm is easier than doing good. -
Nobody says you can't go full disclosure on your own 0day the moment the coin transaction gets recorded.
-
Actually, the contract you sign does; nobody pays that much otherwise. And yes, they require that you sign it and provide your identity. Go public, and you have to pay the money back.
-
That's only valid if the party you're selling to actually has any legitimacy in your jurisdiction and can afford to out themselves as the buyer.
-
The reason sellers honor these contracts with criminal/nation-state buyers is desire to get future sales and fear of extralegal retribution, not fear of getting sued.
-
True. But the buyers have their own concerns, which is why there's a market for private companies serve as cut-outs. Since their purpose is more singular they can advertise their role as buyers more easily.
