Eliminate tax-exempt retirement accounts and tax savings accounts at personal-property-tax rates.
Perhaps I stated that poorly. What I mean is that, if we reach a place where social security is no longer viable, there will be a huge segment of the elderly population in severe poverty with no savings.

My view is that we have to act with an attitude that such an outcome is unacceptable, and that we're going to make sure it doesn't happen, not that we're going to save ourselves (pardon the pun).

That was already known, I've known it since I was a kid, and my mum has known it since she was middle aged, and nobody is doing anything to fix it (I can't, I'm not an economist.) I can only prepare for myself.

What we pay in to SS right now, is literally going to pay for people who are retired right now, instead of being saved for when I retire. Because boomers (not pushing blame onto them, happy they lived longer, and boomed,) but a point is a point.

Yes of course. We need a current generation that won't take "oops you're not getting your social security" as an answer, rather than 75% being like "ooh I've got my savings tucked away, who cares".

I think the lot of us care, I know I do. Which is why I pay into SS, and plan on not collecting, and it's also why I would support a UBI, if it gave me an option to out if I made too much money, but would still be taxed fairly to help support others who want UBI (not need, want.)
