UBI is an idea that already has trouble making way in Europe - only Finland has it AFAIK, one of the most progressive countries ever. How do you expect it to take hold in freakin' USA, where what you call "left" is what we call "center"?

Always demand a lot more that what you expect you can get. If you demand what you expect to get, you'll get nothing.

And AFAIK no countries have UBI yet; some have "UBI" experiments that are "need-based" in at least some way (e.g. unemployed-only) and thus missed the "U" part.

The "U" part of UBI is critical because when it's only by-application, many won't get it, it's stigmatized, and when it's only-unemployed/poor, you disincentivize trying to get a job or doing anything income-generating, since Δincome(got_job)<0.
