Yeah, I do @musllibc, FOSS & infosec stuff. But now is not the time for a mostly-/only-tech Twitter feed.

New Linux students: One day, you'll have to make an epic decision that you must stick to and fight for until the day you die: vim or emacs? Until then, just use nano.

For those non-conforming to bureaucracy of Emacs, yet scared from beauty of Vim there is always Joe's Own Editor - JOE. You can use WordStar key bindings like GRRM and your work will be done in ... well ... as soon as ... squirrels ...

Wow someone else who knows joe! I used it on Slackware because I didn't have disk space for anything bigger and vi was/is awful.

My first contact with Emacs was microEmacs (micro because full emacs wouldn't run on it, even then) on the Amiga. I never figured it out. Wish I'd found a copy of Vim back then.... birthed on the Amiga, still runs on the Amiga (well, still gets built...).

Tim Thompson made STEVIE (ST Editor for VI Enthusiasts) in '87 for Atari ST. Tony Andrews ported source to Unix and Amiga, and then Bram Moolenaar used source of STEVIE Amiga port to make #Vim.
